Notifications
What Spyral notifies you about, where notifications appear, and how to control which ones reach you by email.
Notifications tell you when someone else's work needs your attention: a task assigned to you, a bookkeeping review waiting on you, a document that failed to process.
Where they appear
The bell in the header. It carries an unread count and updates live, without a page refresh.
The Notifications page. Everything, with a search box, a filter by type (Tasks, Documents, Members, Projects, System) and a filter by read status. There is a Mark all read action, and older notifications load in pages.
Email, for the more important types. See below.
A Slack or Microsoft Teams channel, if your firm has connected one. See Integrations.
Clicking a notification marks it read and takes you to the thing it is about: the task, the company's bookkeeping review, the library, or the project.
What actually generates one
- A task is assigned to you. The notification names who assigned it, the task, the project and the due date.
- A task you are involved in is completed or updated.
- A bookkeeping review is requested from you.
- A bookkeeping review you requested is completed.
- A bookkeeping review is delegated, both to the colleague it moves to and to the person who originally asked.
- A document finishes uploading, fails to process, or is shared with you.
- Someone is added to or removed from a project, or their role changes.
- You are mentioned in a chat or a project conversation.
- Your password is changed. This one is a security alert and always reaches you.
Not everything is emailed. Email is sent for task assignments, the three bookkeeping review events, documents that failed to process, being added to a project, a role change, being mentioned, and the password changed alert.
Everything else is in-app only.
Choosing what you receive
Settings, then Notifications. There are separate lists for email and for in-app notifications, plus Do Not Disturb.
The toggles group events by subject, and the grouping is not always obvious:
| Toggle | Covers |
|---|---|
| Team activity | Colleagues joining or leaving, role changes, invitations |
| Document processing | Uploads finishing, processing failures, documents shared with you |
| Chat mentions | Being mentioned, and chat messages |
| Project updates | Tasks, and all bookkeeping review events |
| System alerts | Everything else |
Bookkeeping reviews are controlled by Project updates, not System alerts. This is deliberate, so that muting general system noise cannot silently stop review requests reaching the person who has to do them. If review notifications stop arriving, check Project updates.
Weekly digest and Billing updates appear in settings but do not currently produce anything. Leave them as you find them.
Do Not Disturb
The same settings page can mute notifications between two times of day, by default 22:00 to 08:00. Windows that run over midnight are handled correctly.
Security alerts ignore both your toggles and Do Not Disturb. A password change on your account will reach you at any hour, whatever you have switched off. That is the point of them.
Notifications are per person
Your settings are yours. Muting something does not mute it for a colleague, and there is no firm-wide notification policy. If your whole firm wants one shared feed of activity, connect a Slack or Teams channel instead: see Integrations.
